Over the weekend, I was in Palm Springs, CA for a Creative Director’s conference called RE:Design. This was the first year the conference had taken place. It was located at a vintage style hotel named ACE Hotel and Swim Club. I was lucky enough to win a ticket to this conference through an online magazine I visit daily, Smashing Magazine.

I am pretty sure that I was the only one that wasn’t a Creative Director there… also did I mention that I was youngest? I met so many different people from various companies, all having different stories and roles in what they did at their jobs. It was a great networking experience and I am glad I got the chance to be there.
The speakers were very inspirational. I learned a lot by their talks and saw a new side of things from a design perspective. These people eat, sleep and breathe design; it was very refreshing. Their talks opened up the other side of my brain and it felt great to take a rest from all the code I look at everyday.
One of the sessions included a live jam session from the band, Everest. During their performance, we were instructed to make posters for them… out of paper, magazines, glue and scissors. Then the band went around and picked the best posters. The winners got a free pass to next years conference.
This was my entry:

They absolutely loved it and thought it was hilarious. I ended up being the #1 winner of the contest and I get to attend next years RE:Design… so I guess I will see you all next year!
I can’t wait to attend more conferences in the future. They are great learning opportunities and you never know who you will meet at these events.
